6 Things to do in Phuket

Phuket is one of the southern provinces of Thailand and is located in the Andaman Sea. It is known for its busy markets and many activities.

6 Things to do in Phuket:

1.Visit Big Buddha

The Big Buddha is one of the most famous landmarks in Phuket and it is located at the top of the Nakkerd Hills. You cannot miss The Big Buddha as it stands 45m tall. Once at the top you have a spectacular panoramic view of the island.

The Big Buddha is made with concrete and layered with white Burmese marble. The construction started in 2004, however when we visited in June 2019, they were still busy with expansions.

It is free to visit the Big Buddha, but there are donation boxes. The construction of the Big Buddha is just based on the donations they receive.

This is a sacred place and therefore you will be asked to cover your shoulders and knees.

2.Hire a scooter and explore the island

There are scooters for hire around every corner. Just make sure that the scooter is in good condition and that you wear a helmet when travelling with the scooter.

A scooter makes it easy for you to explore the island and not paying a lot of money on transport.

Phuket’s public transport, like taxis and tuk tuk’s, are very expensive. However, I would suggest driving around with a tuk tuk at least once. It is a completely different experience.

3.Go party at Bungla road

Bangla road in Phuket is known for its lively nightlife and it only comes to life after sunset. At night the road is closed to traffic and it becomes a festival of lights, loud music and cheap alcohol.

Although you can become a bit annoyed as people will be all up in your face.

You will find all the biggest nightclubs at the furthest end from the beach, with the area close to the beach being the most easy-going part.

I will not recommend you wandering around Bungla road alone and definitely not with children!

4.Enjoy the beach

Patong

Patong is the busiest beach in Phuket, and was definitely not my favourite beach. Maybe because it was too busy (even during their low season). Patong has a variety of activities and is especially known for its night life.

Kata, Kata Noi and Karon

These were the best beaches for me in the Phuket area, although the waves can be a bit dangerous during the monsoon season.

5. Go to the night markets

There are many night markets in Phuket and they are definitely worth visiting. Here you will find souvenirs and also explore more of the Thai culture. This is also the spot for cheap food.

6. Take a day trip to Phi Phi Island

If you are only staying in Phuket when visiting Thailand, I suggest you take a day trip to the Phi Phi Islands. This island is known for its beautiful turquoise water and you would definitely miss out if you do not go here.

I do suggest to go to this island as early as possible, as it can become crowded.
