5 Things to do in Koh Phi Phi

Thailand is known as the ‘land of smiles’ and this is because Thai people are very friendly.

Koh Phi Phi Island was one of my favourite islands to visit in Thailand and has the most spectacular views. Koh Phi Phi Island did not disappoint!

5 things to do at Koh Phi Phi:

1.Explore the surrounding islands

Maya Bay

There are many islands surrounding Koh Phi Phi. The most popular one being the Phi Phi island which includes Maya Bay (known from the movie ‘The Beach’), Pileh Lagoon and Viking Cave. (Do know that you are not allowed to get off at Maya Bay due to their rejuvenation program to revive the area’s decimated corals.)

Other islands to visit are Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island.

You can go snorkelling at all the surrounding islands, get your tan on and just enjoy the spectacular scenery that Thailand has to offer.

I suggest going very early to avoid crowds and also taking a private long tail boat. It is a bit more expensive, but then you can go around the islands at your own pase and are not bound to a group.

If you prefer going with a group of people, I suggest you make a booking in advance. However, no booking is needed for a long tail boat, as they are everywhere to be seen. You just walk up to them and tell them what your plans are for the day and they will give you a price. Do negotiate the price to ensure you get a good rate. Don’t just go for the first option.

Pileh Lagoon was my all-time favourite place to visit, with its beautiful limestone cliffs and turquoise water.

2.Go to the Phi Phi viewpoint(s)

Phi Phi viewpoint

The Phi Phi viewpoint has an elevation of 186m and is an easy, brisk 20 to 30-minute walk. At the top, you’ll find the most stunning views and also a nice little shop and restaurant. There are three different viewpoints, each one with its own unique view.

There are many signs pointing to the viewpoint. The viewpoint is also the gathering point in case there is a tsunami (so you can also follow the tsunami evacuation boards).

Entrance fee for the Phi Phi viewpoint is 30 Baht.

3.Go snorkeling

Snorkeling

You can either go snorkeling at the surrounding islands or ask your resort for information about snorkeling. The resort we stayed at had a set time every day when they took you out into the water to go snorkeling.

4.Go shopping

You can wander around at the Tonsai Village, which is the perfect spot for souvenirs. Do take into consideration that this island is somewhat more expensive compared to Phuket and Krabi, as this is a smaller island.

5.Just enjoy the beach

Phi Phi beach

It doesn’t matter where you stay on the island, there will be a beach somewhere close by, if not directly at your doorstep.

This is the perfect island to relax in the sun and take a swim in the transparent aqua water or to take a nice walk along the golden sand beaches.

Koh Phi Phi Island also has the most stunning sunrise and sunsets, so make sure you don’t miss out on this!
