Chapman’s Peak is known for its famous scenic drive that connects Hout Bay and Noordhoek. And although there are various viewpoints on this drive, the view from the top of Chapman’s Peak is even better!
As you pass the tollgate when coming from Hout Bay, you will find the start of the trail at the very first parking area on your left hand side. Park your car at this parking area and make your way up the mountain. There is a sign indicating the start of the trail and the trail is also clearly visible and easy to follow. (GPS coordinates for the parking area and start of the trail).
Be sure to ask for a Day Pass at the tollgate, which is for free. This Day Pass will ensure that you can park your car at the parking areas without having to worry, but also that you don’t have to pay again at the Tollgate when you leave.
The hiking trail is well maintained and mostly consists of a rocky surface/ rocky steps.
You start with a steep climb at the beginning of the trail for about an hour and a half. When the trail splits into two trails, keep to the right. This part of the trail will not be as steep and provides you with stunning views.

The final scramble to the top will take about 30 minutes and is also a bit steep. Right at the end you’ll have to do some rock scrambling – but this is not that bad!
When arriving at the top, there is enough space to sit down and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You’ll also have a stunning view of Hout Bay and Noordhoek.
